Time of change

Huge apologies – but it’s been a long time since you last heard from me. A lot has changed since my last post at Easter. First of all: My parents and I moved at the end of May. From the loud and hot Mannheim city center to a quiet location on the edge of the fields in quaint Brühl. The municipality borders directly on the south of Mannheim and has a population of just under 15,000. We now live there in an old two-family house from the 1950s that underwent a gut renovation over about eight months.

Quiet and in nature

I have my own, almost barrier-free apartment. From my room, I have direct access to the garden, which borders fields (currently planted with corn). Thanks to a large sliding door, my bed can even be pushed onto the terrace with very little effort. I am quite a bit closer to nature and the noise pollution is significantly lower – even if harvesting machines sometimes thunder across the field here ;-).

There was something: turning 40

Since the house has a very large garden, we were able to celebrate my 40th birthday in grand style outdoors in July – with cake, ice cream, and finger food in the evening. Numerous relatives and friends along with their families had come, which made me very happy.

Many thanks to everyone for the well wishes and gifts. I had the strength to exchange at least a few words with everyone. The celebration involved a relatively large amount of effort. Thank you to everyone who supported me with it.

Relaxed care situation

My caregivers also had to adjust to the new environment and the changed situation in the house. Right in time for my birthday on July 7th, Valentina from Lithuania was back with me. She was in Mannheim for almost the entire first half of the year, provided us with excellent support during the move, and ensured stability in the care sector.

Viola, who was with us once before for a year and a half, is back on board. The long periods with the same caregiver without constant changes are good for me. Viola is staying until the end of September, at which point she will be replaced by Valentina again.

Defying the heat

For many in our region, the weeks of heat with temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees were a huge problem. A few hundred meters away from us, a field also burned for a day (photo: Ketsch fire department) – with the unpleasant side effects like an acrid smell of burning – especially at night.

Thanks to the air conditioning, however, my apartment is always comfortably cool at 24 degrees. The installation of several units in the house more than paid for itself in the first year alone.

Support for my magic business

For a few weeks now, I have been feeling well enough to spend a little time on my small online shop again. However, I don't have the energy I had last year, when I could handle a lot of the business operations (customer communication, shipping processing, etc.) all by myself. Therefore, I urgently need support here – a minijob worker would be great. If anyone knows someone (preferably a high school or university student) who would have time to come by 1 to 2 times a week in the local area, please let me know.

Please also keep us updated with new messages, pictures, etc.

Kind regards
Your Fabian

Hello Fabian, first: Happy belated birthday and welcome to the over-40 club 🙂
Cool that you're out of downtown Mannheim now – we're practically neighbors now, I live right in Ketsch towards Brühl – I'd love to come visit you sometime, if you'd like?
It all sounds great, and if you need anything, including for your business, just let me know! Best, Max
